We recommend microchipping at the time of desexing, if not before. The microchip, which lasts for your cat’s entire life, is a rice grain sized silicon chip inserted under the skin between the shoulder blades. The chip stores your cat’s personalised number, which is registered on an Australia-wide database. When a Veterinary Clinic, Animal Shelter or City Council scans a lost cat the microchip number will be linked to your personal contact details, enabling a pet to be quickly returned home.
Remember that your cat will still need to be registered with the city council.
